Standing alone with no direction
How did I fall so far behind?
Why am I searching for perfection
Knowing it's something I won't find?
-Linkin Park, No Roads Left

Arriving at a new school can be scary for anyone, the tension of meeting new people, being forced to the bottom of the food chain, and having to create teams for the next four years of your life. Beacon was a large school filled with talented students that could easily bully the new kids. Especially a young Mercury Black, with his thick rimmed glasses and his shaggy gray hair falling in his face, he was an easy target. He wasn't even the best fighter, so there was no way for him to even stand up for himself.

He sighed and adjusted his feet in the boots he wore. At Signal they never found his semblance, so everything was even more difficult for him. It's really hard to believe he even got into the school with how bad his transcripts were. Following the crowd of eager teens, he just looked to the groups of friends with envy. Why can't I have friends? I'm not a bad guy... he thought. He sighed again, "I feel like a sheep among Beowolves..." he said to himself receiving a small giggle for someone behind him. He turned quickly in circles thinking something was on his back causing whoever was giggling to start fully laughing. He patted down his back to make sure there wasn't a note on it.

"Hey, don't worry about your back, kid, no one put anything on you," a girl's voice told him between laughs. He stopped, feeling like a fool, and faced the girls. They were beautiful in his opinion. The one to the left had olive skin with freckles. Her raven hair sloppily pulled back in a bun with some pieces hanging on the sides of her face. Her eyes were large and light blue with some strange, black mask around one eye and under the other. She wore black and gold clothing with golden armor. She was slightly shorter than the girl to the right.

She was beautiful, no, enchanting. Her short green hair cut above her shoulders beside a lock of hair on each side of head that went to the middle of her back. Her skin was dark and free of flaw. Crimson red, sparkling eyes showed that she was the one that laughed at him. She was slightly shorter that he was.

She's so beautiful, he thought with a light blush dusting his cheeks. "Oh... th-thanks..." he straightened himself up and adjusted his glasses, "I'm Mercury." He introduced himself, I must look like such a dork, he thought, but he gave the two a crooked smile. The green haired girl smiled back at him and stepped forward.

"I'm Emerald, Emerald Sustrai," she spoke and held out her hand. Mercury hesitated for a second then took her hand in his. "That's Onyx Wayne, it's nice to meet you," her voice was sweet like the half eaten box of strawberry pocky he had in his arms.

"It's nice to meet you both," he said than cleared his throat, "Where are you two from? I never saw you at Signal." Trying to make small talk seemed like a good idea as he let go of Emerald's hand and the three of them started walking again.

"We're from Sanctum," Onyx spoke up her voice sounded like a twisted lullaby. He was surprised by the sound of her voice, it did match her appearance, but that she spoke startled him.

"I see," he said with a slight nod. He stopped once they got to the area the rest of the first years were at. Clearing his throat again, he spoke, "Ladies first," he stepped aside for the two to enter the room.
Well this is chapter one of how I think Mercury and Emerald became the two baddies we know and love now.
I hope you enjoy this ^^

Also, I'll post pictures of Onyx and others we'll meet soon.
